What is HOPE?
The Homeless Outreach Population Estimate or HOPE is an annual survey that estimates the number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in New York City. The HOPE count provides critical data that helps shape how the City directs resources to address homelessness.

- Since its inception, HOPE has used a consistent survey methodology that is considered a gold standard for national point-in-time surveys on unsheltered homelessness
- About 1,500 areas canvassed across all five boroughs in 2025
- 1,100+ volunteers engaged in 2026
